Caterpillars and Butterflies

Caterpillars and Butterflies

Grab a few Caterpillar books. If you don't have any at home, check some out at your local library. That's always a fun trip with the kids!

I used the following:
  1. Ten Wriggly, Wiggly Caterpillars by Debbie Tarbett
  2. The Very Hungry Caterpillar by Eric Carle
  3. Clara Caterpillar by Pamela Duncan Edwards

I read each of the books and then we started our craft.

What you will need;

  • Green Construction Paper
  • Wiggly Eyes
  • Glue Stick
  • Scissors
  • Tan Construction Paper
  • Five different colors of construction paper
  • Black Marker

For Your Caterpillar;

(These numbers are for two toddlers to do the craft)

  1. Cut two big circles for the caterpillars face.
  2. Cut 16 small circles for the caterpillars body.
  3. Have your child glue two spots onto the bigger circle. Place two wiggly eyes on those spots.
  4. Have your child then pick out where they want to put their small circles. Put glue on that spot and have them put their circle there. ::Repeat until circles are gone::
  5. Set aside to dry.
  6. With a black marker draw a smiley face. Billy wanted bushy eyebrows so I drew those on for him :)

For Your Butterfly;

(These numbers are for two toddlers to do the craft)

  1. Use your tan construction paper and draw out the caterpillars body. Then cut out.
  2. Take your five pieces of different colored construction paper and trace your child's hand print on each sheet of paper. Then cut them out.
  3. Have them pick out where they want their hand print glued and have them place it there.
  4. Set aside to dry when finished.
  5. With a black marker draw a smiley face.

Enjoy!
